When most people think of the circus, they think of the performances—the daring acts, colorful costumes, and larger-than-life personalities under the big top. While those moments are certainly exciting, I found myself just as interested in everything happening around them.

Recently, I spent an evening photographing Circus Caballero as it made its stop in Las Vegas. As a street photographer, I’m often drawn to genuine human moments, and the circus provided plenty of them. Between performances, performers prepared for their next act, families settled into their seats, and children watched with wide-eyed anticipation.
What struck me most was the sense of tradition. In an age dominated by screens and digital entertainment, there is something refreshing about a live performance that relies on skill, practice, and the connection between artist and audience.
